Job Summary

The Materials Manager provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for all materials management functions.

This role ensures the safe, timely, and cost‑effective flow of materials to support organizational operations, while maintaining high service levels and optimizing inventory performance.

Primary Responsibilities

• Direct inventory operations and oversee third‑party service providers, including cycle counting, stocking strategies, obsolescence control, warranty processes, quality standards, and packaging requirements.

• Manage the full order lifecycle: forecasting, requisitioning, purchase order creation, and delivery scheduling.

• Oversee warehousing and storage operations to ensure safety, organization, efficiency, and effective space utilization.

• Plan and coordinate material requirements for maintenance, capital programs, external partners, and operational modifications.

• Ensure timely delivery, handling, and distribution of materials to meet internal customer needs.

• Optimize transportation and logistics processes to support efficient product and service delivery.

• Develop, implement, and enhance materials management processes, systems, and workflows.

• Provide leadership, guidance, and performance management to employees, as applicable.

• Promote a strong safety culture by communicating expectations, implementing safety programs, and enforcing compliance with all safety policies.

• Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree

• 2+ years of experience in Purchasing/Procurement, Materials or Inventory Management, Transportation, Logistics, Rail Operations, Supply Chain Management, or Basic Warehousing

Equivalent Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED

• 5+ years of Materials/Inventory Management experience in the railroad industry

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree

• 2+ years of experience in Purchasing/Procurement, Materials/Inventory Management, Transportation, Logistics, Rail Operations, Supply Chain Management, or Basic Warehousing in rail industry

• 2+ years of supervisory experience in any of the above areas

Knowledge and Skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office

• Understanding of financial concepts and procedures
