Job Summary
The Electrician is responsible for the disassembly, repair, modification, remanufacture, and troubleshooting of roadway equipment machinery used in railroad operations.
This includes working on complex electrical and electronic operating systems, control systems, and related components to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient equipment performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform disassembly, repair, modification, and remanufacture of roadway equipment electrical and electronic systems.
- Inspect, test, adjust, clean, lubricate, align, wire, and perform conduit work on electrical components.
- Connect, disconnect, dismantle, and repair electric motors, generators, alternators, electrical controls, relays, regulators, and related equipment.
- Service and repair limit switches, drum controllers, power cabinets, lights, horns, magnet controllers, PLCs, and electrical components of hydraulic and pneumatic valves.
- Fabricate and repair control boxes, dash panels, and low-voltage AC/DC wiring harnesses for machine operation and control systems.
- Read and interpret electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics using internationally recognized symbols.
- Use electrical and electronic diagnostic tools including multimeters, ammeters, continuity testers, and other test equipment.
- Work with motor control systems, relay logic, and related circuitry.
- Perform duties in a safety-sensitive environment with exposure to extreme weather, uneven terrain, heavy machinery, loud noise, and fumes.
Basic Qualifications
- At least 18 years of age by the anticipated start date.
- Ability to report to the designated work location as required.
- Ability to work safely under the environmental and operational conditions described.
- Ability to work assigned shifts and any shift required by operational needs.
- Ability to meet travel requirements as needed.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 60 lbs without assistance.
- Ability to visually distinguish red, blue, green, yellow, and clear (lunar) indicator lights.
- Ability to recognize and differentiate verbal and non-verbal sounds such as alarms and signals.
- Ability to use hands and hand tools for grasping, turning, pulling, and other manual tasks.
- Ability to climb ladders and safely get on and off equipment.
- Ability to bend, walk, stand, and sit for extended periods.
- Ability to occasionally work at elevated heights, including on top of locomotives or other equipment.
- Ability to provide documentation of work experience, training, and education for evaluation toward Journeyman status.
